Storytelling lies at the heart of my practice. Through painting, I seek to capture a singular moment suspended in time - an image that invites the viewer to imagine what has preceded it and what may yet unfold. I’m drawn to narratives that exist between certainty and ambiguity, believing that the most compelling stories are often those left incomplete. Rather than offering answers, I hope my work creates space for curiosity, interpretation, and imagination.

My ambition is not simply to produce paintings that occupy a wall, but to create portals into imagined worlds. If a viewer leaves with a story that is entirely their own, then the work has fulfilled its purpose. I want my paintings to linger in the mind long after they have been seen, provoking emotion as much as contemplation. As a neurodivergent, queer artist I have often felt that I occupy a liminal space between accepted realities - perhaps that is why I feel the need to create new worlds where anything is possible and anyone can exist.

My journey as an artist began only in late 2023, but has quickly become the defining focus of my creative life. Although I’ve worked professionally as a dancer and choreographer for more than three decades, as my body’s capacity for performance has reduced with age I’ve found in painting a limitless new language through which to communicate, and I feel it’s become the truest expression of my artistic voice. What began as a private act of exploration unexpectedly evolved into a public practice when I was invited to exhibit my work. The response from audiences affirmed that visual art could offer the same profound connection I had always sought through movement.

I am entirely self-taught, working primarily in acrylic and Chinese ink. Chinese brush painting was my introduction to the visual arts, and I was captivated by the discipline, spontaneity, and meditative focus it demanded. As someone navigating the complexities of neurodivergence, I’ve found painting to be one of the few places where my mind can become quieted. It remains both a refuge and a necessity. Painting has profoundly redefined my life and, in many respects, has been a sustaining force within it. It has become a daily source of purpose and renewal; I wake each day with a quiet but deep joy in returning to the canvas.
My years in dance continue to shape everything I paint. Movement, rhythm, gesture, and physicality are embedded within my visual language, informing the way I construct form, tension, and emotional resonance. I’m interested in creating work that is both visceral and cinematic—images that are felt instinctively before they are understood intellectually.

Ultimately, I paint because I am endlessly fascinated by the capacity of art to connect us. A single image can evoke memory, provoke questions, awaken empathy, or transport us beyond the boundaries of everyday experience. A pivotal moment for me came with Francis Bacon’s Seated Figure. It evoked a sudden and profound response - I remember thinking to myself: I want, and need, to make work that moves people in this way, that makes them feel. That transformative potential is what continues to inspire my practice, and it’s what I hope each painting offers to those who encounter it.
