Alice

A series inspired by Alice in Wonderland

Alice In Wonderland

Acrylic on canvas (60x60cm)

2026

A dreamlike figure sits suspended between curiosity and unease, echoing the surreal logic of a world just out of reach.

In this interpretation of Alice in Wonderland, identity dissolves - her face blurred, her form elongated - as if shaped by the very strangeness she navigates, until the point at which she can fully discover her true self. The key and vial rest quietly beside her, symbols of choice and transformation, while the heavy drapery framing the scene mimics that of a theatrical stage, as Alice's story unfolds like a play in which she is seeking to become the playwright.

The painting invites viewers into a moment of stillness where wonder and disorientation exist side by side.

Alice Out of Wonderland

Acrylic on canvas (84x60cm)

2026

The familiar figure of Alice stands, not within the whimsy of Wonderland, but instead in the banality of the mundane world. From her homogenous apartment balcony she turns her back on a vast, desolate cityscape, stripped of vitality and narrative warmth. What once promised curiosity and transformation is now replaced with stagnation and sterility. The only element that offers the promise of change is a captivating vortex within the bright blue sky, inviting Alice to turn her eyes towards it and fall into it.

The work plays with fading contrast: stultified imagination against industrial bleakness, childhood fantasy against an adult reality that feels depleted. Alice becomes both observer and outsider, caught in a liminal space where wonder has collapsed into disillusionment.

Rendered in a stark composition, the piece invites reflection on what happens when wonder fades, and whether it can ever be reclaimed once seen from the outside.

Wonder no longer surrounds Alice - it emerges from within her. Fragmented features and blooming fissures suggest a psyche overtaken by dream logic, where beauty and distortion coexist. Roses spill across her skin like thoughts made visible, both delicate and invasive, while her gaze remains suspended between awareness and surrender.

The work invites viewers to consider wonder not as a place we enter, but as something that quietly reshapes us from the inside.
